motorcycles
boats and personal watercraft
You can find the complete and up-to-date list of supported controllers HERE
The device includes protocols for the following controller reading methods:
OBD Programming with DFOX
Using the included kit, you can read and write data from the ECU directly via the OBD cable, without the need to remove it from the vehicle. The software features an easy and intuitive organization of controllers, allowing for quick ECU reading and programming. The vehicle list and internal software functions are continuously updated.
Functions are also available for restoring the ECU to its standard version, updating, or downgrading the ECU software.
In addition to actual reading, many controllers offer a virtual reading option: when virtual reading is available, the software connects to DFB servers and downloads the appropriate original software for the ECU within seconds.
In older vehicles and agricultural or construction machinery, standard OBD ports are often replaced by round or rectangular diagnostic ports. DFOX allows connection using the included cable according to the provided diagrams. OBD Programming Stability
Before programming a vehicle controller, DFOX calculates and corrects the file’s checksum, RSA, and CVN, and performs the necessary file checks to minimize risk.
The tool offers a range of features that streamline the management of reading and writing data in ECUs. For example, the Forced Recovery function allows full ECU communication to be restored in the event of a failure or loss of controller response (e.g., accidental cable disconnection or a drained notebook battery).
Working in BENCH Mode with DFOX
Bench Mode is a simple and innovative communication system that allows reading the full contents of an ECU without the need to open it. Only the power and communication wires need to be connected to the ECU connector (pinout) according to the displayed diagram.
Each control unit comes with a connection manual.
Reading and writing Flash memory
Reading and writing EEPROM
Reading and writing external flash memory (if present)
DFOX calculates and corrects the file’s checksum and performs the necessary checks to eliminate risk before programming the vehicle’s ECU.
This simplifies the work, as there is no need to open the control unit cover, and it also prevents potential damage to the circuit board.
Advantages of DFOX for BENCH MODE
The BENCH MODE connection allows reading and writing data in the ECU of various types of vehicles.
It works on the microprocessor (internal flash memory) and EEPROM; if present, it also supports external flash memory and external EEPROM. Most ECUs can be cloned by transferring the entire content from the old unit to a new one.
For control units with a TRICORE TC17xx processor, the software includes numerous “cloning service” functions that enable adaptation of OTP zones and password areas. This ensures that the cloned ECU will have a file compatible with the firmware characteristics of the processor.
Working in BOOT Mode with DFOX
BOOT MODE is a system for communication with the ECU processor.
It can be particularly useful when:
The controller does not allow reading in Bench Mode,
The controller is partially damaged or has been incorrectly programmed.
Before programming the vehicle’s ECU, DFOX calculates and corrects the file’s checksum/RSA and CVN, and performs all necessary checks on the loaded file to eliminate any risk.
DFB Technology offers two different types of configurations:
DFOX Master
DFOX Slave
✅ Full independence – you can read and write files in open format (bin/hex).
❌ You can read a file from the ECU/TCU, but it is saved in encrypted form.
✅ You can modify maps yourself (e.g., in WinOLS, ECM Titanium, Swiftec, etc.).
❌ You cannot edit it yourself or open it in WinOLS.
✅ You can also create your own files and sell them to others.
✅ You send the file to your Master (tuner/file service), who modifies it and sends it back.
✅ You can collaborate with any company for file processing.
✅ You receive a ready-to-load file from the Master – still encrypted, so you can only program it.
✅ Recommended version for tuners, electronics specialists, and workshops that want to work with their own files.
✅ Cheaper version – suitable for workshops that only read/write files and outsource tuning to others.
It is also possible to purchase TCU protocols, allowing reading/writing of automatic transmissions.
The original product is designed and developed in Italy by DFB Technology srl, leveraging over 15 years of experience in creating software for the automotive sector.
Thanks to continuous updates and ongoing software development, DFOX is the ideal support tool for workshops specializing in professional mechatronics.
